STEM Sentences
STEM sentences provide pupils with a consistent structure for explaining their mathematical thinking both orally and in writing. They are modelled by adults, displayed in classrooms and used regularly to develop mathematical reasoning and communication.
In EYFS, STEM sentences are based on the EYFS Statutory Framework and Development Matters, supporting children in achieving the Early Learning Goals for Mathematics. They are modelled using Numicon alongside practical resources.
From Years 1–6, STEM sentences are aligned with the National Curriculum for Mathematics and follow the school's mathematics schemes: Power Maths (White Rose Edition) in Years 1–4 and White Rose Maths in Years 5–6.
